On May 11, 2026, Rainbow Springs Solar sent the following letter directly to the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners. Because we believe every resident of Cherokee County deserves to know what we told their commissioners, we're sharing it here in full so you can read it for yourselves.
SUMMARY: What We Told the Commissioners
1. rainbow Springs Solar means real money for Cherokee County — no strings attached.
We're not asking for a single dollar in tax breaks. We've already proposed voluntarily paying the county more than $5 million in the first 10 years alone. Over 20 years, estimated tax payments and voluntary contributions total $38 million, according to
Wichita State University.
2. we're legally bound to protect the land on our dime.
Our decommissioning and development agreements are enforceable contracts with Cherokee County that require us to remove all equipment and restore the land when the project ends. Read the agreements
here.
3. we can help lower your tax burden.
Per-capita property taxes in Cherokee County have risen by approximately 24% between 2020 and 2024. Revenue from Rainbow Springs Solar goes directly to the county, helping fund services without raising taxes on residents.
4. working with neighbors.
Every landowner participating in Rainbow Springs Solar made a voluntary decision to be part of this project. We are also working to sign “good neighbor”agreements” with nearby residents and landowners. We respect property rights, which is exactly why we oppose county-wide zoning, as 61% of Cherokee County residents do too,
according to recent polling.
5. we want to work with the county, not around it.
We've proposed road use agreements, decommissioning protections, neighbor agreements, and community contributions. We're ready to meet with commissioners and find a path forward that works for everyone.
